Theme Thursday Last Thursday's theme was liquid. This is *very late!! I had it posted last week but got so busy I never came back and finished my entry! Sorry.

Anyway - these are pictures I took at night of the Transco Fountain (or Williams Water Wall or whatever you want to call it)... A little more information:

"This Houston landmark recycles 78,500 gallons of water every three hours and twenty minutes. The Water Wall consists of the Transco Fountain and Wonder Wall. The fountain is a 64-foot curved wall down which the water cascades. Lights illuminate the water at night. Wonder Wall is a shorter wall which stands in front of the fountain. It is
made of granite and limestone and contains three Romanesque arches.

Theme Thursday Today's theme is school. This sort of ties in to part of my theme for last week. Pictured below is a The Academic Building at Texas A&M University, my alma mater. It is essentially the center of campus and a focal point for various traditions as well the home of the Liberal Arts Program.

Below that picture are the yearbooks for each year I was at school there (yes, the four years became five after a total of there degree changes). I attended from Fall 1991 till I graduated in May 1996. I opened up one of the yearbooks to a picture of what used to be one of our biggest traditions that unfortunately has been put on hold as result of a horrible tragedy in 1999 that took 12 students' lives. Go to the Bonfire Memorial page to read more about it.

Photojunkie's Photocontest I have entered my first Photojunkie Photocontest... The category is "Cityscapes" and here is my submission:

Cow-scape.

Rannie asks us to "try to capture an image that you think would entice people to come and visit your city" and even though we have a beautiful skyline, I didn't feel any of my pictures did it justice. So I looked through some of my other Houston pictures and came across one of my favorite Cow Parade pictures. This was taken in Downtown Houston in a little park that is situated in front of this lovely mural. The mural depicts its own "cityscape" and shows you some of the old and new Downtown buildings. The cow was one of the over 200 cow sculptures I photographed while they were out in public all over town. I also thought it adds to the cowboy feel of the city...

As for a tourist attraction, Downtown has been revitalized over the past couple of years and the place to go now for weekend evening entertainment - good restaurants, good bars and good nightlife - great after a evening of world class theater, symphony, opera or ballet!

Did you know? "Houston has a Theater District second only to New York City with its concentration of seats in one geographic area. Located downtown, the 17-block Theater District is home to eight performing arts organizations with more than 12,000 seats."

Along with my 300 Exposures submission,
my Mirror Project Gallery went up this weekend as well:

Elaine's Mirror Project Gallery: Vintage

The Mirror Project

Be sure to check out my portrait as a little girl on that page as well as my own vintage mirror project shot my Father took when I was a toddler that was my inspiration for the gallery.

Theme Thursday Today's theme is hands. Pictured below are my own hands. On my left hand there are the two most important rings I own, my wedding band (which is never taken off) and the diamond and sapphire engagement ring my husband designed for me. On my right hand is a 3 banded ring I bought in Spain in 1994 that I wear everyday as well as my university ring from Texas A&M.

My hands.

The Aggie ring has a special story to it and is a unique class ring that is instantly recognizable. It is also a symbol of Aggie pride since a student must bee in good academic standing and have completed at least 95 hours of credit before even ordering it (unlike most universities who don't have such requirements nor do they even have a standard ring style).

Theme Thursday Today's theme is money. I realize my picture is not very imaginative but it was fun to sift through the various coins and bills that my husband and I have saved over the years from our travels. It's especially interesting to realize that most of the coins I do have are no longer in use since the Euro has now become the European currency (click on image for a bigger picture)...

money from our travels

The coins and bills jumbled somewhere in that picture include Austrian Schillings, Swiss Francs, French Francs, German Marks, Spanish Pesetas, Portuguese Escudos (all now replaced by the Euro), British Pounds, Argentinean Pesos, Mexican Pesos, Cuban Pesos (although I've never been), Bahamas Dollars, East Caribbean Dollars, and Guatemalan Quetzals.
